Update 5/20

Dear Members:

We know it has been difficult for all of us since the start of the Governor’s COVID-19 ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe’ order which took effect on March 23rd.  We hope that your family has been healthy and safe and thank you for your patience during these uncertain times.

In the past weeks, the Board has been in contact with the City Of Livonia to ask for guidance regarding the Club’s opening.  With the City of Livonia waiting for guidance from the State of Michigan as to how to best proceed, the Board was not provided any framework as to how or when the Club could open; however, BHSC, along with the other Swim Clubs in Livonia, is planning to open as soon as possible.

With the latest update of the Governor’s Executive order not extending the ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe’ mandate beyond May 28th, the Board believes we can plan to open the Club while still observing social-distancing guidelines that will still be in effect.

The Board is planning to start with the Work Bees on Friday, May 29th through Sunday, May 31st.  The City of Livonia has turned on the water and we have our toilets, faucets, and sinks reconnected.  In alignment with the social-distancing guidelines, the Board is restricting the number of volunteers to 20 people at each Work Bee.

The schedule we have planned is:

May 29th – Friday Morning – 9:00am-1:00pm
• Move Picnic Tables (8 people)
• Empty Locker Rooms (4 people)
• Power Wash (2 people)
• Tighten Picnic Table Bolts (4 people)

May 29th – Friday Afternoon – 1:30pm – 5:30pm

• Weed Swing Areas (4 people)
• Paint Basketball Court Lines (2 people)
• Paint ‘Four Square’ Court Lines (2 people)

May 30th – Saturday Afternoon – 1:30pm – 5:30pm
• Paint Shuffle Board Court Lines (2 people)
• Weed Tennis Courts (4 people)
• Install Cabana Covers (2 people)
• Paint Snack Bar Frame (1 person)

Sunday, May 31st – Sunday Morning – 9:00am-1;00pm
• Trim Hedges in Parking Lot (4 people)

Additional opportunities will be provided to participate in the Work Bee activities throughout the season but the current focus of the Board is to open the Club as soon as possible.  If you would like to participate in the scheduled Work Bees, we ask that you please visit the ‘sign up’ genius site at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0B4AAAA62DA31-bhsc and volunteer.

Upon completion of the Work Bees, the pool will open as soon as possible predicated on compliance with Federal, State, and Local procedures that will be put into effect for the upcoming season; for the health and safety of the Membership, our families, friends, and guests.  Tentatively, the Board is focusing on opening the Grounds to our Members only beginning of Saturday, June 6th at 12:00pm, practicing social distancing and compliance with State and CDC standards.

The dedicated Staff at BHSC is ready to work and will do their best to help you to start to enjoy your summer. The Board will let you know when we have decided how best to open, but one thing is certain – we will be relying on the patience and diligence of you, the Members, to help keep the staff, you and your families following the rules set forth by the State of Michigan and the CDC.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to send an email to me and I will contact you as soon as possible.

With your help, the Board is looking forward to opening the Club to help bring back a sense of normalcy to the Members at BHSC.
