BHSC Update 4/13

Dear Members:

The Board once again extends a warm welcome to you and shares in your anticipation of the opening of the 2021 Season.  We hope that you have been able to take advantage of the warm weather the past couple of weeks!  The Board has been hard at work and we would like to provide an update as to the status of the Club items.

Dues

As a reminder, dues payments were due on April 1st.  If you have not made your payment, we ask that you pay as soon as possible to avoid any additional late fees above the $65 that has already accrued in your account.

Covid  and Guests Update

In talking with the Livonia Parks and Recreation Supervisor, there has still been no official direction provided by the State or County regarding the operation of outdoor pools for 2021; therefore, the City is recommending that BHSC start the 2021 Season as the 2020 Season ended. This issue has been even more concerning with our Governor asking that people and businesses voluntarily quarantine for two weeks.  The Board does have a goal of allowing guests in some form this season and would like feedback from the Membership if you share this same goal, and, if so, how you would best feel comfortable with allowing guests.  A survey will be sent in the next weeks and we ask for your feedback.  Please note that the Board will be following the rules set forth by the State, County, and City to ensure the safety of BHSC Members.  These government entities will be our top guide to our safety decisions.

Club Improvements

The Club has been proceeding with the improvements this past winter and spring.  The supports have been installed for the building, gravel was laid for better drainage, new sumps have been added, the cracked and leaking underground piping has been replaced and the new cement has been poured in the filter room and around the building.  Now that the infrastructure has been completed, the installation of the filter will begin.  The current timeline is to have the pools running by the first weekend in May – allowing the Club to be ready to open by Memorial Weekend!  Please visit our website for pictures and updates of the improvements.

Work Bees / Flower Bees

As previously mentioned, with the Covid precautions still expected to be followed this season, the ‘Work Bees / Flower Bees’ will be conducted as they were last year in groups of 20 people signing-up per shift.  If you have not done so, please take the time to sign-up for one of the shifts.

The ‘Work / Flower Bees’ allow the members to earn the return of their $100 assessment by supplying four (4) hours of adult labor (18 years or older).  The Board has decided to lower the Work Bee age to those 16 years of age.  Each Membership is allowed only one (1) ‘Work Bee Refund’ for the year.  The Board requests that Members whose children require supervision not accompany their parents to the ‘Work / Flower Bees’.

The ‘sign-in’ process for the ‘Work / Flower Bees’ will remain the same as last year.  Members are asked to choose one shift and arrive on time to work that entire shift. Members are not allowed to split-up time between sessions.  Members should come in appropriate work clothing (for painting, wet grounds, etc.) and bringing personal tools (rakes, shovels, power tools, hardware, etc.) is always appreciated.  If you have any particular skills such as carpentry, tiling, etc. please contact Jim Mariani or Mike Buatti so proper arrangements can be made for specific tasks.

Please check the website for any ‘Work / Flower Bee’ updates.

Young Children’s Playscape

The Board is looking to expand the sandbox area with additional toddler’s playscape items such as the one pictured below.  If anyone would like to donate a gently used playscape or knows of someone who would like to donate one, please contact the Board so arrangements can be made.

Calendar

The Club is still planning to open on Friday, May 28th  at 12:00 p.m. (staff and weather permitting) and will be open through Labor Day (Monday, September 6th).  The Board has decided that when school is in session, during the week, the hours will be 4:00pm-8:00pm and 12:00pm – 10:00pm on the weekends.  When school is out for the summer, the Club will be scheduled to be open from 12:00pm-10:00pm during the week and on the weekends.

During the season, the hours may change depending on Social Events, Swim Meets, weather and pool conditions.  Please call the Club at 734-591-1767 or check the Club’s website if you have questions about the hours of operation.

A ‘New Members’ meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 29th at 10:00 a.m.  All new Members are invited to attend.  The meeting will provide valuable information regarding the Club and provide an opportunity for new members to ask questions and meet the Board Members and Staff.

Swim Team

As you know, the Summer Independent Swim League will be hosting swim meets this summer in a manner that all the Clubs believe will be Covid compliant.  The swim team is a fun activity, and we encourage all members’ children to participate regardless of their skill level.  The Swim Team Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 10:00am.  Please check the bulletin board and website for more information and important dates.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any other Board Members using the links on the BHSC website.  On behalf of the Board, we look forward to seeing everyone at the Club this season!
