Burton Hollow Swim and Racquet Club

Dear Members:

 

The Board extends a warm welcome to you and shares in your anticipation of the opening of the 2021 Season.  We would like to thank the dedication of our staff and the members for a difficult, but successful, 2020 Season and hope that you were able to enjoy the weekends we were open in September.  This letter provides reminders and updates regarding the opening of our Club for 2021.

 

Board of Directors

 

On behalf of the General Membership, the Board would like to thank Gale Edelen for her service to Burton Hollow.  I would like to welcome Christy Krawczyk and Jim Mariani to the Board and congratulate Sean Horgan on his reelection.  I would also like to welcome Jason Stevens as head of the Social Committee.

 

Covid Update

 

In talking with the Livonia Parks and Recreation Supervisor, there has been no official direction provided by the State or County regarding the operation of outdoor pools for 2021; therefore, the City is recommending that BHSC start the 2021 Season as the 2020 Season ended. The Board is working and planning to open the Club on the traditional Friday of Memorial Day weekend (May 28th).

 

Membersplash

 

BHSC will start using the Membersplash program at the Club.  This program will help reduce the fraudulent usage of our Club by using photos of each family membership to be used at check-in.  We will be able to better track guests, allow for the reservation of the cabanas online, remove the need for the 'blue cards’ and reduce our mailing costs.  We ask that you visit our website for a tutorial on the usage and to update your membership information.  If you choose not to upload a picture, you will be required to show a picture ID for entrance to the Club.

 

Dues

 

As most of you know, an email was sent regarding the online billing of the dues.  The Club is moving towards electronic communications in our ongoing effort to become as fiscally responsible as possible.  Please note that, as reported at the 2020 General Membership Meeting, the dues have been raised to 550.00 (needed to obtain the loan for the Club repairs), a Special Assessment of 100.00, and the Work Bee fee of 100.00 for a total charge of 750.00.

 

Club Improvements

 

The Club is proceeding with the improvement this winter.  The Baby Pool has had the sinkhole repaired and the marcite has been replaced.  The new diving board has been purchased, the old filter for the main pool has been removed and the new filter system is being installed.  Please visit our website for pictures and updates on the improvements.

 

Work Bees / Flower Bees

 

With the Covid precautions still expected to be followed this season, the ‘Work Bees / Flower Bees’ will be conducted as they were last year in groups of 20 people signing-up per shift.  This year the ‘Work / Flower Bees’ are scheduled for:

 

  • Work Bee 1 – Saturday, April 24th from 9:00 – 1:00 and 1:30 – 5:30
  • Work Bee 2 – Sunday, April 25th from 9:00 – 1:00
  • Work Bee 3 – Saturday, May 1st  from 9:00 – 1:00 and 1:30 – 5:30
  • Work Bee 4 – Sunday, May 8th from 9:00 – 1:00
  • Work Bee 5 - Saturday, May 15th  from 9:00 – 1:00 and 1:30 – 5:30
  • Work Bee 6 – Sunday, May 16th from 9:00 – 1:00
  • Flower Bee – Saturday, May 22nd from 9:00 – 1:00
  • Flower Bee Rain Date – Sunday, May 23rd from 9:00 – 1:00

 

Please note that the ‘Work Bees’ and ‘Flower Bee’ are limited to 20 people each on a ‘first come – first served’ basis.  Sign-ups will be available shortly.

 

The ‘Work / Flower Bees’ allow the members to earn the return of their $100 assessment by supplying four (4) hours of adult labor (18 years or older).  Each Membership is allowed only one (1) ‘Work Bee Refund’ for the year.  The Board requests that Members whose children require supervision not accompany their parents to the ‘Work / Flower Bees’.

 

The ‘sign-in’ process for the ‘Work / Flower Bees’ will remain the same as last year.  Members are asked to choose one shift and arrive on time to work that entire shift. Members are not allowed to split-up time between sessions.  Members should come in appropriate work clothing (for painting, wet grounds, etc.), and bringing personal tools (rakes, shovels, power tools, hardware, etc.) is always appreciated.  If you have any particular skills such as carpentry, tiling, etc. please contact Jim Mariani or Mike Buatti so proper arrangements can be made for specific tasks.

Calendar

 

The Club plans to open on Friday, May 28th  at 12:00 p.m. (staff and weather permitting) and will be open through Labor Day (Monday, September 6th).  During the season, the hours may change depending on Social Events, Swim Meets, weather and pool conditions.  Please call the Club at 734-591-1767 or check the Club’s website if you have questions about the hours of operation.

 

A ‘New Members’ meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 29th at 10:00 a.m.  All new Members are invited to attend.  The meeting will provide valuable information regarding the Club and provide an opportunity for new members to ask questions and meet the Board Members and Staff.

The BHSC website address is burtonhollowswim.com.  The website is regularly updated to include updates to the social calendar, swim team information, Club hours, and direct links to contact Board Members.  Please bookmark this site and check it frequently.

 

Associate Members

 

To the owners of a membership, the Club extends the privilege of sponsoring ‘Associate Members’.  Married adult children must own their own separate membership or should be signed in as a guest of the active Member.

 

To better manage the ‘Associate Memberships’, the Board asks that those considering them complete the requested information in Membersplash for review by the Board.

 

Swim Team

 

Once again, the BHSC Dolphins Swim Team will compete in the Summer Independent Swim League.  The swim team is a fun activity, and we encourage all members’ children to participate regardless of their skill level.  The Swim Team Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 10:00am.  We ask that all swim team parents attend one of these meetings.  Please see the enclosed paperwork for more information.  Also, please check the bulletin board and website for more information and important dates.

 

Rules Reminders

 

The Board would like to remind all members and their guests that no glass or ceramic containers of any kind are permitted on the Club grounds.  For sanitary reasons, only water in clear bottles is permitted on the Main Pool deck.

 

The safety of the membership is of the utmost concern to the Board.  Unsafe conduct, especially on the pool deck, has the potential for serious injury.  Anyone participating in unsafe activities (such as picking up and throwing someone in the pool, running on concrete surfaces, etc.) will be given a warning, and if the person continues, the suspension of pool privileges will be considered.

 

The Board would also like to take this opportunity to remind Members that according to the Pool Rules (Section 2g) “Children may swim in the Main Pool only if they are toilet trained (no diapers or swim diapers are allowed)…”  The purpose of this rule is to prevent the County-mandated closing of the Main Pool for up to 24 hours due to ‘accidents’.  We ask that all parents remind their children of all ages that they should use the restrooms on a timely basis to prevent the Board from closing the Main Pool.

 

The designated smoking area for the Club is in the parking lot area.  This also includes vaping.

 

The use of drones on the grounds is prohibited.

 

We ask that if you are using a personal loudspeaker system under the Cabana or in the grills area to please respect others around you when setting the volume.

 

The majority of infractions come from guests of the Club.  The Staff and Managers rely on the members hosting the guests to ensure that their guests are aware of the Club rules.  Please take the time to review the rules on the website.

 

Member Contacts / Front Desk Check-In

 

Please complete your Membersplash section online prior to visiting the Club.  This information is essential to the Club in the event of an emergency.  If a member was to have some medical difficulty, this is an invaluable source of information.

 

The Board asks that when everyone ‘checks-in’ at the front desk be patient at this time.  If guests will be permitted this season, at ‘check-in’ the guest fees will be collected, and guests will be asked to wear a wristband when using the Club.  If you plan to host a party, please visit the website for information.  An accurate number of guests attending your party will allow the Club to properly staff the Club for that day.  The designated ‘party areas’ are reserved on a ‘first come – first served’ basis.

 

Recreation Activities

 

Once again, the Club is planning to offer Diving Lessons, Tennis Lessons, Swim Lessons, and Volleyball.

 

Swim Lessons will be offered to current members and those on the ‘Wait List’ at a cost of $35.00 per child for each two-week session, payable by check before the session begins.

 

Please watch the bulletin board for information regarding costs and times for the Diving Lessons and Tennis Lessons.

 

Social News

 

Jason Stevens will be the Social Committee Chairperson for this season.  He has many activities planned at BHSC for this summer.  We invite all members to volunteer and participate.  You can get updates for social events using the ‘remind’ app for your phone, visit the website, or from the Club’s bulletin board.
